Once In A Very Short Lifetime

It’s a leap year folks. That’s right, just when you thought that weird function IsLeapYear() would never come in handy, here we are at the end or beginning of another four year mark. Somebody out there is only now finally able to celebrate a long awaited birthday.. somebody.

Getting on with it, I have been seriously contemplating purchayzing a DSLR camera for the last little while now. I know that when Dave bought his, I was a little bit skeptical about whether it was worth the money, or if I’d even care to take stylized pictures.

Comon, do I even need that?

That’s what I’d say to myself when the urge to splurge came over me. The operative word in that statement would be need, but as I’ve come to realize, nobody needs a hobby — unless you spend your time ruining lives due to your excess free time, then you may want to consider a hobby.

I don’t consider myself a photographer, but I do enjoy doing it and I like to think that I have some raw skills that could stand to be refined. Sigh. Anyone who has had to decide knows it’s a pain to choose Canon or Nikon I’m sure, and to compare them side by side would be pretty much pointless because as far as I can tell, a good exposure (read: This book calls photos “exposures”) is largely dependent on the photographer anyway, and the quality will be god, good even, no matter which system is used. Still, I kind of feel like I have to choose sides and once I have, there is no turning back. No turning back without dropping a few thousand dollars at least.

I’ve narrowed it down to the Canon 40D, or the Nikon D200, or D300. I think they’re what you’d call “prosumer” cameras and are all b-b-baller. Some more than others, but if you look up the feature set, you will see why. What to do, what to do. Either way, I think I’ll be getting one, so I suppose this leap year, I’m jumping headfirst into the world of photography. Don’t try to F-stop me.

*bobs and weaves to dodge glass bottles for the lame pun*
